Welcome. We will be discussing a variety of topics that interest us. Movies, Sports, Culture, things that we normally talk about everyday. We just want to bring it to a public forum because, well, we have nothing better to do. Our jobs require to sit in an office for hours on end waiting for people to come in and give us something to do. There is only so much day time TV one person can take. So lets get started.
"X-Men Origins: Wolverine"
I will take the negative. I saw this film over the weekend. It was not bad but i think it fails to live up the new standards of comic book films. Lets face it, "Ironman" and "The Dark Knight" inverted the comic movie genre. They gave the comic films credibility they were losing because of pictures like "The Fantastic Four" and "Batman and Robin." Instead of another step forward it seemed like a step back.
A lot of characters seemed miscast and out of place. How does Will.i.Am get more lines than Ryan Reynolds and Dominic Monaghan? Fans were finally treated to a visit from Gambit, after three previous films, and all they got was a flat performcance form Taylor Kitsch. kitsch did not even try to pass the character off as Cajun. Kitsch himself is not even from the US, he is Canadian for crying out loud. I am more Cajun than him and I live in Missouri, Mon ami. Yes, I know Hugh Jackman isn't from the US, but he can act, Kitsch just shows up and lets the special effects to do the talking.
I guess I should have had my expectations lowered after the past movies, the characters strayed farther and farther away from their roots. Colossus, for example, had no indicatation of his russian roots at all and as the films progressed Halle Berry progressivly lost the african accent. Pay close attention the next time you watch the trilogy, its annoying how it just disappears by the third film.
The special effects, though very solid, some how in one shot reverted back to 1985 for a shot that they may not have been needed. The worst part is they keep showing it and it is so bad it is boarder line comical. It becomes almost sad when you think back through the film at how good the rest of the effects were. Then you think about how ridiculous it was to try and do that shot in CGI to begin with and how much money wnet into getting the most pointless shot in the entire movie.
I may be coming off as a little bitter but my movie experience was ruined by the idiots surrounding me. Three things:
One; If you have a child under five and the movie contains adult subject matter, don't bring your kids. Baby sitters are cheaper than movie tickets. SIX groups of parents brought childern under the age of five to the movie and SURPRISE the loud noises and flashing lights made them cry. The kids that can talk cannot follow the plot and do not know you are not supose to talk during movies.
Two: Everyone is watching the movie you don't need to verbally point out the obvious. When the characters spend 15 minutes talking about going to see Gambit, then they main character introduces him self to that chacter, you don't have to say out loud, "Oh, is that Gambit?" Moron.
Three: If your sick, stay home. I didn't pay eight dollars for someone to cough on my neck.
Your turn sir.
